The sales figures suggest he may not have needed one, but the host of the O’Reilly Factor’s historical biography Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination That Changed America Forever should be getting a big PR boost today as it was confirmed that a documentary-film adaptation was in the works.
Reuters reports that research by TheWrap.com has validated rumors that such a documentary effort will be picked up by the National Geographic Channel; not incidentally “a joint venture between National Geographic and Fox Cable Networks.”
Viewers (and yes, readers) can expect the premiere early next year, with production starting soon, and under the Scott brothers, whose “Gettysburg” documentary was released last year. In the process, author and TV host Bill O’Reilly will have an executive producer credit to add to his résumé.
Viewers can also expect re-enactments, rare archival material, and another growing staple of documentaries: CGI.
Said O’Reilly in a statement:
“National Geographic has a great legacy of telling some of history’s most riveting stories. The assassination of President Abraham Lincoln is no exception, as it continues to be one of the most significant, life-changing events in America’s young history. … Ridley and Tony Scott are incredible directors, producers and amazing storytellers with the ability to bring this story to life in a way no one else can,” the statement continued.”
