I just finished reading You are an Ironman by Jacques Steinberg (as you can tell I'm on a self-improvement/ inspiration- kick) and it was one of the best books I've read in a long time. If you want to get fired up about swimming 2 miles, biking 120ish, and running a marathon than you should read this book. Steinberg inspires you by documenting 6 average people's journey to one of the greatest tests of human endurance and you literally look in on their lives for a year as they train, nurse injuries, and question their ability. There are so many reasons people sign up for the Ironman competitions, let it be weight issues, marathons aren't challenging enough anymore, or you were inspired or challenged by someone to do it - it doesn't matter the reason, an Ironman will change your life. You eat, breath, and sleep in preparation for the Ironman - I've read that it is like a part-time job. Reading about the struggles and pain that all 6 Ironmen endured, yet they crossed the finish line, got me so excited that I promptly told my husband he should do one (I'm not that crazy). If you are looking for a book that will get you jazzed about pushing yourself, getting in the best shape of your life, and hearing those famous words: "You are an Ironman", I highly recommend this book. Though I haven't signed up for an Ironman, I did sign up for an Olympic distance triathlon on the Arizona Ironman course (close enough for now).
